About Us

The Royal British Legion is the largest armed forces charity in the UK. It provides essential social, financial and emotional support for serving and former servicemen and women and their families. That support starts from the first day of service and is lifelong.

The Royal British Legion has been supporting members of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, British Army, Royal Air Force, Reservists, veterans and families since 1921.  And we’re not going anywhere

The Royal British Legion (Guernsey) manages the Poppy Appeal locally. Its iconic emblem the Poppy was chosen because it brought colour and hope and bloomed even in the devastated areas of Northern France and Belgium. It is particularly significant in this the 100th Anniversary of the Royal British Legion.

Locally the ‘Island Branch’(now the Central Committee) was formed on 6th November 1922. This committee has overall responsibility for the Guernsey Poppy Appeal, the Island Ceremonial Parades and works with local government to ensure the spirit of the Guernsey Military Covenant is maintained and provides Welfare assistance.

We provide practical, emotional and financial support to all local members of the British Armed Forces past and present and their families.

Mobile Display Unit  our MDU can be seen at community events around the island promoting the work on the British Legion. Manned by volunteers selling poppy merchandise and taking donations for the Poppy appeal, it’s also an opportunity to promote the work done by our Welfare Team. Literature on the help they offer and contact details are readily available. As always the opportunity to stop for a chat is always encouraged.-

During the week before Remembrance Sunday the MDU can be found in St Peter Port when it is stocked with Poppy merchandise, commemorative pins and as always taking donations for the Poppy Appeal,

Banter Breakfast –. The Banter Breakfast is an occasion for all serving and ex-serving personnel and their families to get together over a full English Breakfast (or continental if you prefer). It is a chance to meet up with old friends and perhaps make some new. Held on the first Saturday of each month at Les Rocquettes hotel, St Peter Port starting at 08:00 for a very reasonable £4.50
